“The Voice of the Bible”
November 13, 1913 – February 22, 1985
Building A World-Class Bible App Brand
In 1981, David Aven founded Neva, Inc (“Neva”). Neva offered professionally-mastered analog recordings consisting of 48 audio cassette tapes of the King James Bible narrated by Alexander Scourby.
In 1982, Neva released additional professionally-mastered analog recordings consisting of 12 audio cassette tapes of the New Testament narrated by Alexander Scourby.
In 1982, Mr. Aven launched a worldwide marketing campaign offering audio bible cassettes utilizing TV commercials airing on the Christian Broadcast Network (CBN). Neva’s consumer-direct TV commercials created a worldwide phenomenon amassing a devoted fan-base of faithful Christian consumers.
In 1983, Mr. Aven’s marketing strategy on Christian Broadcast Network (CBN) was expanded to launch a second campaign of TV commercials airing on Ted Turner’s global news media platform CNN. Both of those brilliant marketing campaigns (CBN and CNN) were unique worldwide. Never before had anyone utilized TV ad spots to offer professionally-mastered analog recordings of the King James Bible on cassette tapes.
In 1985, Alexander Scourby suffered diminished health and passed. Each of Alexander Scourby’s narrations of the King James Bible remain exceptional lifetime achievements. Chicago Tribune wrote “Alexander Scourby has the Greatest Voice ever recorded and is the World’s best audiobook narrator bar none.” Manager Don Weightman of the American Foundation For The Blind (“AFB”) remembers “Scourby, a radio, film, and stage actor read 422 books for the Talking Books program of the American Foundation for the Blind, including King James Bible.” Among many successes throughout his lifetime, Alexander Scourby’s enduring legacy includes worldwide acclaim as “The Voice of the Bible.”
In 1991, Litchfield Associates, Ltd (“Litchfield”) acquired from Neva all rights to Alexander Scourby’s narrations of the King James Bible. Litchfield also acquired from the Estate of Alexander Scourby all rights to Alexander Scourby’s other audio narrations. Litchfield now licenses the use of Alexander Scourby’s narrations worldwide.
World-Class Innovation: The You Bible App
Between 1982 and 1997, technology improved rapidly. Media organizations created the CD, DVD, and Mp3. As new technologies came available, Litchfield expanded worldwide consumer sales by releasing a featured-packed Audio Bible App for use on Apple® and for use on devices utilizing Google’s® Android operating system.
In 2008, Litchfield rolled out the You Bible App for use on the iPhone® and a subsequent Your Bible App for Android-based devices. The You Bible App is an outstanding value, because the Audio Bible App combines the written Bible Verse from the KJV Bible synced with an audio narration of the KJV Bible by Alexander Scourby.
Litchfield’s bimodal synced presentation of the KJV Bible (hearing and reading) improves comprehension and increases retention.
