King James Bible. The King James Bible was first printed in 1611 with the sanction of King James of England. This was after a long period from early 1400 to 1540 in England, were it was a crime, punishable by death, for anyone to speak or write the Bible in English. There was a Latin Bible and those that could read Latin was able to read the Bible. But 99% of the people did not read latin, they spoke English and not many could ever read English. The punishment for violating that law was to be burned at the stake, thousands were killed for just speaking or reading the Bible in English.
